Warum Eigentum Auf Krete

Most people who purchase property in Crete are primarily influenced by a combination of at least the following factors: the astounding natural beauty of the island of Crete, its size and physical variety, its climate, its olive groves, its fascinating ancient, medieval and more recent history, its people and their traditions and also its cuisine. It is a place that can suit both the cosmopolitan and the recluse. It is a unique Greek island where that which is often referred to as a “Mediterranean Dream” can, probably and depending on the expectations of each person, be fulfilled.

Value
In addition to the above, property as well as the cost of living in Crete today, are still significantly cheap, when compared to any other EC Mediterranean country. Crete is the last remaining, as yet unspoilt and reasonably priced, European Mediterranean destination for property purchase.

Land prices have been appreciating fast over the past 3-4 years, but for the time being, (1stquarter 2006) they appear to be leveling out at levels that still constitute a reasonable proportion of the total cost per square meter of a house or villa.

In Crete one can buy a 2 bedroom 100 sq. meter home, at prices 20% to 30% below those of same size and quality offered in Portugal, Spain or Cyprus. But the value difference does not end here. If one compares the locations available and offered in Crete, which can be impressive, since in other countries similar locations have already been exploited, the value difference is even greater. Also, planning regulations in Crete will, to a large extent, hopefully, prevent the over exploitation of these locations. So, selective buying in Crete can offer outstanding value and long term investment potential.

The Natural Beauty and Traditions of Western Crete.
Western Crete is an interesting area to visit and live in. Surrounded by sea on three sides, it includes the famous Samaria Gorge and many other astounding physical features. It is green and not arid in the summer, unlike other areas. The countryside around Chania with its vast olive groves, interspersed with cypress trees and especially the Apokoronas Peninsula, with the White Mountains in the south (often snowed until late April) are  especially beautiful, all year round. There are many villages each maintaining its customs and traditions in music, song and food.  The Cretans are a genuinely friendly people. Chania, with an international airport 10 kilometers from its center and with a population of 75,000 is a historic town built and fortified by the Venetians and has one of the most beautiful harbours in the Mediterranean. The weather claims 300 sun days per year and the winters are especially mild.

Amenities
